Not too bad overall, right? I hope?
I really enjoyed trying this look, and while I'm not ecstatic with how it turned out, I'm considering this a reasonably successful first attempt. I basically followed a combination of the techniques demonstrated on The Nailasaurus and The Polished Fox; however, because this is Amateur Manicure, after all, I made one major error: I didn't make my bands of color tighter and smaller as I worked up to the lighter ones. So unfortunately, even though I sponged on nine (!!) different polishes to create the galaxies, you can really only see the lightest few. Definitely a shame, because there were a lot of great colors in there, but now I know how to be better next time.
I started with a base of Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Lacquer in Secret Love (an AMAZING polish that I'll review soon!), and then I sponged on all of the following (from left to right):
- Sephora by OPI Dark Room
- ILNP Neutron Starlette
- Sephora by OPI I'm with Brad
- butter LONDON Blowing Raspberries
- Julep Nadia
- Essie Ladylike
- OPI Kyoto Pearl
- Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear Disco Ball
- Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Snow Globe
When I try this again (because I'm definitely going to!), I think I'll probably reduce the number of colors I use by one or two to give myself more breathing room for layering them properly. Using lots of colors worked really well for The Polished Fox, but I'm not quite there yet!
